Bowness-on-Windermere

Bowness is the village located two miles down the road from Windermere train station and is on the shores of lake Windermere. It can get very crowded with typical tourist traffic and has two large hotels, the Laura Ashley Belsfield and the Macdonald Old England.

There are hotels and bed and breakfasts all along the main road from Windermere village to Bowness which vary in size a cost. You will need a taxi to get you from the train station at Windermere to the hotels in Bowness, especially if you have cases and don't like walking.

This is a much busier and more crowded place with tourist shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants. There are a couple of 24hr ATMs and a post office but no bank or pharmacy. There is a Tesco Express and a Co-op in Bowness if you need provisions. The children's "World of Beatrix Potter" attraction is situated in Bowness and Windermere Cruises operate from the Promenade if you want a trip around the lake.

One of the meeting-points for our tours is situated outside Windermere Cruises' Pier 1 on the shores of the lake.
