Windermere

This is where the train station is located and where the main road (A591) comes into the Lakes from the South. The largest and nearest hotel to the train station is the Windermere Hotel, literally across the road from where you will arrive.

Many people think that it is on the shores of Windermere lake, it isn't, that's two miles down the road at Bowness. If you walk down there, be aware that it is an uphill walk back to Windermere again.

There are a lot of hotels and bed and breakfast accommodation providers in Windermere and the cost varies depending on the size and location. If you aren't keen on walking far or have a lot of heavy luggage, you may need to get a taxi from the train station to reach your accommodation.

The atmosphere in Windermere is lively with plenty of shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants. It has three banks, two pharmacies and a post office should you need them and there is also a Booths supermarket next to the train station if you need any provisions.
