Brontë tours from Windermere
Windermere is where most of our tours begin. The town grew up around its railway station, which sits at the end of the branch line from Oxenholme, so it is the easiest place in the Lake District to reach without a car, and hotels, guesthouses and the lake itself are all a short walk or taxi ride away.
Our Brontë tours cross the Pennines from the Lake District to Haworth and the moors that shaped Charlotte, Emily and Anne Brontë, on a full day with a specialist guide.
The Brontës' Haworth
The Brontë family moved to the parsonage at Haworth in 1820, and it was there, in 1847, that Charlotte's Jane Eyre, Emily's Wuthering Heights and Anne's Agnes Grey were published. The house is now the Brontë Parsonage Museum, and the moorland behind it is still the landscape of Wuthering Heights. Our tour takes in the Parsonage, Ponden Hall, Wycoller Hall and the moors, in a small group of no more than six, with a separate driver and guide.
What you'll see
- The Brontë Parsonage Museum in Haworth, with entry included
- Haworth, the village the Brontës called home
- Ponden Hall and Wycoller Hall, both linked with the novels
- The moors that inspired Wuthering Heights
